Introduction To Mini Guttering

Mini Gutter is a small guttering system that is generally used on sheds, greenhouses, lean-to roofs, summer houses and bay windows. It is approximately two thirds the size of normal domestic guttering, most manufacturers Mini Gutter measures around 75mm (3”). The Floplast MiniFlo system stocked by Gutter Supplies measures 76mm (3”) across the top and is 38mm deep. The rainwater downpipe which connects to this system is 50mm (2”) in diameter.

Common Uses

Mini Gutter is most commonly fitted to garden sheds and summer houses. The size and capacity of the system is ideal to handle the rain that runs off of this size of roof. By fitting a gutter system to a shed you will protect the timber structure from water damage – many sheds rot at the bottom edge purely because the water runs off of the roof and straight down to the ground where it both splashes up and puddles, gradually being drawn into the cladding timbers that form the main wall of the shed.

Floplast Mini Gutter is also commonly used on small lean-to roofs and around bay windows, where the 135° angle that is rarely found in small gutter systems comes into its own.

Colour Options

The Mini Gutter system is available in Black, White and Brown. Black is currently the most common colour choice for the majority of customers.

Connecting to Water Butts

You can now connect the downpipe from a Mini Gutter directly into a water butt with a purpose-made Rain Diverter. The Floplast RVM1, available in all three colours, is the first rain diverter to be made solely for mini guttering. It allows water to flow from the downpipe straight into the Water Butt, but when the butt is full the clever design of the diverter causes the water to run back down the pipe and away.

Installation of Mini Gutters

The installation process is the same as would be followed for normal guttering, with all the same fittings being used. Gutter and Pipes come in 2m lengths. Fascia brackets can be screwed either directly to the shed wall, or can be packed out with timber if required by the overhang of the roof. Gutter Unions, angles (90° and 135°) and outlets all come with integral clips and rubber seals. Outlets are available either as running outlets or stopend outlets, depending upon whether you wish to site the downpipe at the end of the run or in the centre. Gutters should be laid at a slight fall towards the downpipe (we suggest 1 in 350) to aid water flow.

Offset bends for forming swan necks, downpipe shoes and pipe clips complete the system.
